Getting to Amsterdam
Flying
Please book travel as far in advance of the wedding as possible to arrive preferably a few days before and maximise the chances of you being there. Sophie has had this happen before and luckily was able to reschedule due to booking her flight to arrive a few days before a wedding. Ideally, if you could get there by the Thursday, if not as early as possible on the Friday, that would be great.
We recommend travelling by Eurostar as that has the least cancellations. If the Eurostar doesn't work for you, please book with KLM as the top choice for flying: KLM has the least cancellations and is the easiest to reschedule followed by British Airways. EasyJet has more frequent cancellations followed by Ryanair and please avoid booking with Wizz Air as it has the worst flight cancellation rate by far.
You should be able to get a pre-booked taxi or public transport (see section below for more information on how to find your correct train/bus/metro/tram lines) from the airport to your hotel. If you're unsure, please reach out to your accommodation and they can provide specific advice.
Getting around in Amsterdam
Amsterdam city center is easily accessible from Schiphol Airport with trains to Amsterdam Centraal Station and buses to various locations. You can download the apps NS or 9292 on your phones in order to see when trains are departing, and from what platform. Google Maps is also a good indicator of travel too including options for various modes of transport. Often trains from Schiphol to Amsterdam Centraal depart from Platform 3 but please triple check. From Amsterdam Centraal, you can rely on other types of transportation like the tram or metro (also visible in the app 9292), but depending on your stay, you might have to rely on walking or Uber. If you're unsure, please contact your accommodation.
